Choosing the right family picture outfits can significantly impact the overall look and feel of the pictures. When deciding on outfits for family pictures, envision the final result of your photo session. We want to make sure outfits will compliment and contract with the backdrop and each other, not compete!
Choosing a color palette
A Neutral Color Palette
Cream, ivory, vanilla, oatmeal, are examples of comforting and warm colors that are giving cozy vibes. These are an easy go to for studio and in-home sessions. Choose 2-3 soft neutrals and pair them together for a clean and elegant look. Add in some dark khaki and tans for cohesive contrast. Keep in mind, neutral doesn’t always mean beige. Consider other earthy colors such as blue, taupe, grey, sage, or terracotta. These could even be added in for pops of color.

Going for Bold
Now we are talking gemstone colors! Scarlett, emerald, plum, sapphire, even turquoise, are all examples of striking and luxurious colors you can add to your family picture outfits. These look amazing paired with neutrals or even another bold gemstone color. If you are looking for vibrant family portraits this is the way to go.
Classic Black
Technically, black is a neutral color, however I get asked often if it’s a good choice for family photos. My answer will always and forever be YES! It’s classic for a reason and that’s because it’s absolutely stunning and works with everything. A chic and elegant color choice that photographs very well, black has a way of taking your family picture outfits to the next level of sophistication.
Personal Style
All in all, choose outfits that resonate with your personal style and maybe even your home aesthetic. Often, harmonizing your family picture outfits with your home decor creates a curated look when it comes to wall displays that reflects your family’s unique style and personality. As always, reach out if you have any questions or if you are looking for input. I am happy to help!

Love that you specify that neutral does not mean beige! Great post!
